Inside My Everyday Beauty Bag

Everyday Natural Makeup Routine | The Elgin Avenue Blog

Are you guys curious about what’s in other people’s beauty bags? I am so nosy when it comes to makeup – I love to know what products other people use! My girlfriends and I are constantly exchanging reviews about products we’ve tried, what we’ve loved, what’s worth spending on . . . and inevitably we end up swapping tips and tricks. I’ve discovered some of my very favourite products off of the back of reviews from friends (thanks girls!).

I figured that if I’m curious about other peoples’ makeup bags, then some of you may be too, and so today I’m sharing which products have made the cut for my everyday makeup bag. Note – I have a whole other shelf for makeup I use for special occasions, etc. but these guys are my everyday staples.

. . . in case you couldn’t tell by their half-used, well-loved appearance!

Inside My Everyday Beauty Bag

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation Focus

skin

Tinted Moisturiser: Estée Lauder Daywear Sheer Tint Release

Foundation: Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation. The colour reference has rubbed off in my makeup bag! But I used a tester in store to colour-match to my skin tone.

Under Eye Concealer: Aerin Eyelight Concealer

Blemish Concealer: Maybelline Fit Me Concealer, in Sand #20

Powder: Rimmel Clear Complexion Powder

When I came to writing down the list of products I use on my skin, it surprised me – I couldn’t believe I use five everyday?! I’ve always felt like I was  a ‘natural makeup’ kind of girl (and ultimately that is the ‘look’ I go for), but evidently I still love my products . . .

Although I use up to five products, I use them all just enough to give me an even but natural skin tone. The Estée Lauder Sheer Tint Release moisturiser is an absolute face-saviour – I swear by it! In the summer, when I have a tan, I’d happily wear this alone. As my skin is currently quite sallow, and I’ve had a few breakouts (ugh), I’ve been using a little bit of the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation for extra coverage. The Aerin Eyelight concealer is an incredible highlighter, and is an extremely light consistency – I dab it under my eyes and follow with either a bit more blemish concealer or foundation if needed. The highlighter from the Aerin concealer comes through anything you put over it, so I always use it first to banish under eye bags. For blemishes I’ve been using the Maybelline Fit Me concealer for a few years now, and I’ve found it comparable to more expensive brands. I discovered powder so late(!) but the Rimmel Clear Complexion one is light, and keeps shine at bay. I don’t feel like I’ve found my ‘perfect powder’ yet so if any of you guys have recommendations I am all ears!

bronze & blush

Bronzer: Tom Ford Bronzing Powder

Blush: Tom Ford Cheek Colour, in Ravish

Tom Ford cosmetics are some of the best beauty products I have tried for strong pigment. In particular the Cheek Colour in ‘Ravish’ is just gorgeous, and I always feel more perky for having a pop of it on the apples of my cheeks. Tom Ford is a more premium beauty brand for sure, with more expensive products I always prefer to try them on the counter first before taking the plunge – this blush was recommended for me, and I couldn’t be happier with it! Even if I am getting my makeup done for a shoot, I bring it with me and ask the makeup artist to use it – I love it that much!

eyes & brows

Eyeshadow: Maybelline Colour Tattoo, in Permanent Taupe #41

Mascara: Max Factor Fasle Lash Effect

Brows: MUA Eyebrow Pen, in Brunette

All of my everyday eye products are super affordable. I have tried more expensive mascaras, and I have some lovely eyeshadow palettes, but day to day the Max Factor False Lash Effect mascara is the best I’ve ever used, and the Maybelline Colour Tattoo pots stay on my eyes all day – amazing if, like me, your eyeshadow always seems to crease!

The MUA Eyebrow Pen is only £1! My sister and I always go on the hunt for beauty products together and she introduced me to the MUA range. I have my eyebrows threaded every few weeks and so the shape is normally quite good, but I fill in using a pencil as my brows are weirdly patchy in places?! This ‘Brunette’ shade is a little dark for me so I use a cotton bud to remove excess colour if needed, and try to go in with a light hand.

lips

Lipstick: L’Oréal Paris Pinks Collection Color Riche Lipstick in Blake Pink

I L-O-V-E the L’Oréal Paris Pinks Collection lipsticks – I have almost all of them and they are such gorgeous colours! The ‘Blake Pink’ is a great hot pink hue, I use it when I want a ‘pop’. I’ve used some of the more muted pinks, including Julianne for a more subtle, yet still noticeable, colour. The consistency of the lipsticks are really moisturising, but not shiny, which I like too. I don’t feel the need to use lip balm as well as the lipstick.

I’d love to know what’s in your every day makeup bag?! Do you use some of the products I’ve mentioned? And do you have any recommendations of products you just love? As ever, I am on the hunt for your very best beauty advice!

Love, Monica x
