The start of a new year is an amazing time to press pause, re-evaluate where you are at, and set intentions for the year ahead.
As you consider these things over the festive season, I wanted to bring focus to something we can all prioritise more of in 2019: joy.
What brings you joy? When do you feel that warmth of happiness? Are there habits, things or people which bring you more joy than others?
I’ve teamed up with one of my favourite joy-delivering brands Bloom & Wild to celebrate joy in 2019.
I hope that this post will help you to focus on more happiness next year.
Cheers to 2019!
5 Ways To Add More Joy Into 2019
1 – Presence
One of the simplest ways I’ve found to add more joy into my life, is by being present.
There are so many tiny things to appreciate in the moment, which pass us by because we’re preoccupied with our thoughts.
Or . . . our phones – ha!
Even on the gloomiest of winter days, when I’m inside tapping away at my keyboard, I try to be present in the moment.
I aim to focus on the little things which deserve my gratitude . . . a delicious coffee, a warm jumper . . . the fact that I’m inside instead of standing in the cold! (I’m always grateful for that – ha!)
If you want to focus on being more present in 2019, there are lots of things you can do to help yourself. You can try meditation, putting your phone on airplane mode, journaling . . . !
Whatever you try, stick at it. As with everything, the more you do it, the more it’ll become habitual.
2 – Know How To Recharge
Knowing HOW to recharge, for you specifically, is so important.
It’s not just sleep which can help you to recharge.
Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
What kind of a diet makes you feel great?
What kind of exercise boosts your energy?
Your favourite way to relax?
Once you know your recharging recipe, you can focus in on all the things which make you feel amazing.
And feeling amazing/energised is a VERY joyful habit indeed.
3 – Fresh Blooms
Flowers are a huge joy-giver for me. I absolutely adore them!
Be it a scattering of roses in the garden or an arrangement on my kitchen table. Blooms make my heart beat faster.
In case you’re not familiar with Bloom & Wild already, the brand is an online flower retailer which specialises in ‘Letterbox Flowers’. Bloom & Wild’s stunning arrangements can be posted through the recipient’s letterbox! The stems arrive flat, and carefully packaged so as not to damage them. Then all that’s required is the arranging.
I’ve lost count of the number of Bloom & Wild arrangements I’ve gifted. It’s one of my favourite presents to send.
If you’re a flower geek like me you’ll dive straight into the arranging, but if you need a little extra direction Bloom & Wild include helpful styling guides within the delivery.
There are SO many arrangements to choose from. Bloom & Wild’s best-selling ‘Piper’ bouquet is the one featured in these photos, and it’s one of my favourites.
The Piper features 23 stems, including la belle roses, pink snapdragons, alstroemerias and delicate waxflower. The. Dream.
You can also order seasonal arrangements, subscriptions, plants and even hand-tied bouquets.
If flowers boost your joy as much as they do mine, then investing in more blooms next year is definitely a worthwhile pursuit!
4 – Spend More Time With ‘Radiators’
You didn’t read that wrong!
There is a theory that some people are ‘drains’ and others are ‘radiators’.
Drains leave you feeling depleted of energy, and radiators leave you feeling great! Radiators emit warmth, positivity, they smile often and generally envelop you in a good feeling.
We all have people in our lives who are radiators, and if joy is a priority for you in 2019 those are the relationships to focus on, right?!
Spend time with the people who lift you up, who support you and make you feel energised.
5 – Connect With Nature
Did you know that connecting with nature has a whole myriad of benefits?
It can lower your cortisol levels, improve your overall health and boost your creativity.
Spending time in nature also helps to put things into perspective. I always feel SO appreciative of my tiny space on Earth when confronted by an endless seascape or a towering forest.
Being outside can also help to boost your Vitamin D intake, which is critical in gloomy winter months.
More time outdoors = a huge happiness boost.
As we approach the new year I’m giving more and more thought to what 2019 will look like. I am SO excited for the year ahead (I have a feeling it’s going to be an AMAZING one!), and as part of that I’m making joy a big focus for me.
WHAT’S YOUR TAKE?
How are you going to go about focusing on joy in 2019? Do any of the tips above resonate with you?
Thank you Bloom & Wild for encouraging more joy in the world, and delivering so many stunning flowers to homes far and wide! A BIG happiness-giver for sure!
Love, Monica x
